EQUAL EMPLOYMENT OPPORTUNITY

WHAT IS EQUAL EMPLOYMENT OPPORTUNITY?

''What is EEO?'' The basic EEO definition ( or equal employment opportunity ) is the idea that everyone should be treated fairly when they're considered for various employment decisions (including hiring, promotion, termination, compensation,etc.).

HOW TO PROVIDE EQUAL EMPLOYMENT OPPORTUNITIES?

  1. Start at the hiring process.
  2. Create and encourage a safe working environment.
  3. Help employees to educate themselves
  4. Don't just accept differences, celebrate them
  5. Make it known that your company stands for equality and  create a culture to support it
  6. Speak to your employees about wider issues.

DISADVANTAGES OF EQUALITY IN THE WORKPLACE

  • Communication maybe tough in a more diverse workforce, even if everyone is speaking english.
  • Workers from cultures that value difference to management may not speak up without encouragement.
  • Standards of polite behaviour may differ widely among employees.
  • Employees maybe self-conscious about what they say or the jokes they tell for fear of unintentionally offending some one.
  • Employees from different groups may form cliques and avoid  other groups, reducing the benefits of diversity.
  • Can create a tense,hostile work environment .
